Ever hear of Thomas Luny?  People in Teignmouth know of him as their most famous marine artist.  His works are sold at major national auction houses and command big prices. During the latter part of his life he painted in very adverse circumstances with his brushes strapped to his arms on account of his diseased hands.  Even so, he was capable of the most exquisite work in his depicting of naval and South Devon coastal scenes.

In 2009 it will be the 250th anniversary of his birth.  His home town is intending to mark this milestone by a celebration of his work and a variety of creative and performing arts activities.  Already community leaders from across the local arts scene have met to plan the way ahead.  But, of course, they would welcome your help.  If you wish to know more - or have already decided to lend a hand - contact gssmith@teignbridge.gov.uk
